Yes, you read that correctly. McDonald's Canada is bringing two new chicken breakfast sandwiches to Quebec. Starting Monday, March 9, the Chicken McGriddles and Chicken McMuffin breakfast sandwiches will be available "across Canada for a limited time at participating restaurants," says the fast-food chain in a press release.
McDonald's first tested the sandwiches last year in Alberta, where, apparently, they were popular enough to convince the company to introduce them nationwide.
"'Chicken is becoming an increasingly popular choice at breakfast time. While novel for some, it’s long been a popular choice for many,' said Nicola Pitman, Director, Menu Innovation and Management, McDonald’s Canada.
"'Both the Chicken McGriddles and Chicken McMuffin at breakfast give Canadians the opportunity to expand their breakfast taste buds, with a new protein choice meal on the go.'"
The Chicken McGriddles, especially, is bound to raise a few eyebrows in a province where chicken for breakfast is not the norm.
"Served on McDonald’s maple-flavoured griddle cakes," the 370-calories Chicken McGriddles are, according to McDonald's, the perfect on-the-go breakfast experience, providing the classic combination of sweet and savoury."
The Chicken McMuffin, meanwhile, "is complete with a mayonnaise-style sauce, and a slice of tasty processed cheddar cheese sitting on a toasted English muffin."
The online breakfast menu indicates that a single McMuffin is 360 calories.
Both sandwiches "[come] from chicken raised on Canadian farms without the use of antibiotics that are important to human medicine."
Unconvinced? You can try the sandwiches yourself at participating restaurants until 11 a.m. every day.
A McDonald's Canada spokesperson tells MTL Blog that the Chicken McMuffin and Chicken McGriddles will stay on the breakfast menu until June 28, 2020.
