McGill University Ranked "Top University In The World"

Current students and alumni of McGill University will be pleased to hear the Montreal academic institution ranked fairly high in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2018.

An annual ranking of the world's best universities,  with the 2018 list including 1,000 institutions from 77 countries, the THE report placed McGill University at the 42nd spot.

At the top of the list is the University of Oxford, followed by the University of Cambridge and the California Institute of Technology.

McGill is a fair bit behind the top-three universities, but 42nd out of 1000 definitely isn't bad. Given how many universities exist (and were included in the report) it's safe to say McGill is one of the top universities in the world.

But McGill isn't the best university in Canada, according to the THE World University Rankings 2018.

The University of Toronto took the 22nd spot, with the University of British Columbia ranked at number 34.

"Canada’s top two universities," as they're called by the THE, ranked high on the list for their "research impact," meaning these two universities are regularly producing "high-quality academic work."

That isn't to say the THE report didn't have nice things to say about McGill.

In a brief profile on McGill University within the reports "best universities in Canada section," THE noted that McGill is the only Canadian university in the  World Economic Forum's Global University Leaders Forum.

McGill also has more Rhodes scholars than anywhere else in Canada and incoming students have better average grades than any other university.

Take that U of T and UBC.

Another Montreal institution, Université de Montréal, also made the list, ranked at number 108.
