Aurora Cannabis is all set to becomethe first licensed producer of medical cannabis on the island of Montreal.

Health Canada gave Aurora Cannabis its cultivation license in October. Production is expected to begin in a few weeks.

The company has stated that it can cultivate as much as 4,000 kg of cannabis annually.

In addition to its state-of-the-art-technology, the company has installed high-quality filtration systems at all their sites. These will ensure compliance with Health Canada policy requiring an odour-free environment in areas surrounding medical cannabis production facilities.

The rooms in the facility include a 'mother room' where plants are grown, 'cloning rooms' where the genetic purity of the plants is maintained, and 'flower rooms'.

Aurora hopes to expand as Canada moves to legalize marijuana starting July 1, 2018.

At present, the only other such company in Quebec is Hydropothecary, which operates a facility in Gatineau.
