We all know Meghan Markle has become a worldwide style icon since her foray into royal life... but who knew that she's not the one paying for those clothes out of her Suits savings account.

Yep, it turns out her dear father-in-law, Prince Charles, has been footing the bill for the Duchess' wardrobe.

And her maternity threads have racked up an over $800,000 bill thus far... and she's still got a month to go.

TL;DR The Duchess of Cornwall has spent $840 000 on maternity clothes, thanks to a royal estate that funds the royals' expenditures.

According to Global News and the researchers at Love the Sales, the Duchy of Cornwall has spent over $840,000 thus far on Meghan's maternity duds.

Which means she's spending about $100,000 a month. Now that's a fashion budget.

You, like me, might be wondering where all this money is coming from. As it turns out, British taxpayers are not directly paying for Meghan Markle's Alexander McQueen obsession.

The funds that Prince Charles uses to pay for his wardrobe, along with the wardrobes of William, Kate, Harry and Meghan, comes from the "Duchy of Cornwall estate."

This estate is essentially a private income source for the family that works like most estates in Britain have for hundreds of years. Estates are managed by a semi-independent public body, and revenues go to the royal family.

The estate "funds the public, charitable and private activities of The Prince of Wales and his immediate family."

Created in 1337 by Edward III for his son and heir, Prince Edward, the fund is composed of 52,971 hectares of land in 23 counties, mostly located in the South West of England.

The fact that the fund is still around 800 years later means that it must have accrued hella compounded interested.

Apparently, Markle's outfit is a household expenditure, because attending lavish events and appearing in public are both parts of the job.

The Duchess pays for the clothes that she wears on her own time.

The price tag may seem hefty, but the new royals spend very little when compared to other members of the royal family, who only wore designer clothing.

Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton are both fans of more affordable brands like Zara and Marks & Spencer.
