Access to groceries is both more critical and more difficult than ever. That's why Metro is expanding its online delivery services. The grocery store chain is adding two new options for customers "to better respond to the exceptionally high demand for online grocery during this pandemic period," according to a press release.
Through "a new partnership with Cornershop, an on-demand grocery service accessible through the web or a mobile application," online Metro customers can "receive their orders directly at home, in as little as 60 minutes, all prepared by a personal shopper."
This service will be in addition to its current online shopping offer, through which customers can select the items they need and arrange a pick-up time at their local Metro store.
The 60-minute delivery will enable shoppers to avoid the often long lines outside their neighbourhood supermarkets brought on by strict but important social distancing measures.
"These are unprecedented times and our teams are deploying exceptional efforts to serve Canadians, both in-store and online,” said Marc Giroux, Executive Vice President, Quebec Division Head and eCommerce.
"We will continue to make every effort in each of our banners to keep our employees and our customers safe and serve their needs every day, especially our elderly customers who need to protect themselves by staying home."

Metro has also created an additional "priority" pick-up service to best serve seniors, people with reduced mobility, and those who are self-isolating.
Though the company makes clear it's available to the wider public, as well.
The M-Priority allows customers to "pick up their pre-assembled order outside the store and simplifies the process if someone is dependent on others to do their grocery shopping," Metro claims.
Meanwhile, its grocery stores continue to enforce measures to protect customers and employees.
Reduced business hours, more frequent cleanings, and Plexiglass barriers at checkout points are all aimed at "[providing] you with a safe, clean, and pleasant environment."
At some locations, customers are asked to wash their hands before entering.
