Montreal Expecting Severe Thunderstorms And A Risk Of Tornado

Montreal has experienced some truly beautiful weather this summer. We were fortunate enough to enjoy days filled with sunshine, with some small bouts of rain.

Even with summer coming to an end, the temperature is saying otherwise. Today has been so hot that a heat warning was issued from Environment Canada, because we can expect it to reach 40°C!

This kind of extreme weather makes me want to stay inside a cool building all day long, or at least eat ice cream, sitting beside a fan.

That isn't the only extreme weather that we could be experiencing for today!

Environment Canada just released another weather warning at 11:53 this morning for a "severe thunderstorm" with a chance of tornados!

Via Environment Canada

According to Environment Canada, conditions are favourable to produce a severe thunderstorm, and can produce large hail, torrential rains, and damaging winds.

These damaging winds can easily toss objects in the air (such as vehicles), destroy buildings, and uproot trees.

And as if that wasn't bad enough there is also a risk of tornadoes.

This warning is in effect for the following areas:

  • Châteauguay - La Prairie area
  • Laval area
  • Longueuil - Varennes area
  • Montréal Island area

Hopefully we won't have to run for cover!

Here's What's Open & What's Closed On Labour Day In Montreal

There are still a ton of things to do this Monday holiday!
  • Here's a short list of what's open and what's closed on Labour Day in Montreal.
  • If you're heading out, make sure to call ahead to your destination to inquire about reduced hours.

Yes, it's a long weekend! Three uninterrupted days to relax, have fun, and not think for two seconds about things like school or work, or other responsibilities until Tuesday morning. Not to be too depressing but it will be six weeks before we get another official long weekend.

But let's focus on the positive! This is usually one of the summer weekends that people are trying to pack in their last days of camping or chalet time. But if you're planning to stay in the city it's good to know what's open and what's closed so you can plan out your Labour Day weekend.
