Montreal Is Being Invaded By Rabbid Racoons

A few years back, Montreal saw an explosion of Rabbid Raccon cases and since then, the Ministère des Forêts, de la Faune et des Parcs has been fighting to prevent this from happening again.

Every year, they detect new cases of "racoon rabbies", which is why the government will implementing preventive measures to stop them from spreading. 

Raccons have even been classified as a rabies vector species which means they have a higher risk of being infected with rabbies that other mamals. 

For the next 2 days, workers will be spreading vaccination traps in all the parks in Montreal and the surrounding areas. They are asking people not to touch or move the traps. 

If you spot a raccoon you think might be infected with rabies here are the signs to look out for: 

  • They have difficulty walking or they are walking in circles.

  • They look confused, disoriented, slow. 

  • Making weird and crazy noises.

  • Foaming at the mouth.
