Cold weather isn't the only thing to worry about when biking in the fall. As the leaves change, so does the number of daylight hours, as the sun begins to set earlier and earlier every day. What used to be a bright 7pm bike ride in July is now a chilly pedal through the dark. With less light comes less visibility on the road, a true danger to cyclists, so Vélo Québec is making sure everyone is prepared and handing out free bike lights today.
In collaboration with Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC), Vélo Québec will be handing out free bike lights on a first come first serve basis. Technically, you kind of need a bike light, as it is a mandatory aspect of riding around at night according to the Highway Safety Code, so you mine as well get one at no charge and save yourself from any tickets, and more importantly, a potential accident.
Vélo Québec and MEC will be handing out free bike lights today, October, 9th, from 4pm to 7:30pm in Parc La Fontaine, at the corner of Rachel and Brébeuf (map). If you need any more info, check out the Facebook event here.
