Summertime is (basically) here in Montreal, and with it comes a whole new mess of road closures and events that will throw a wrench into your commute planning.
This is on top of all the Montreal construction, of course.
This weekend, one of Montreal's biggest festivals returns and brings with it a ton of roadblocks that you might want to take note of.

Vélo Quebec's GO BIKE MTL is a massive festival that unites cyclists in Montreal. It is HUGE and runs for a full week.
During the GO BIKE MTL Festival, cyclists come together on what has to be the biggest tour of the island of Montreal.
Seriously, on Sunday, June 3rd swarms of cyclists will take over the Montreal roads for the day, and because of this many roads will be closed to traffic - sending drivers into a frenzy.
This year, Velo Quebec has released a brand new app with live updates on the event and road closures, so you're gonna want to download that to stay in the know.
As of right now, drivers in Montreal can expect road closures on Friday evening for Tour la nuit - which will see roads closed between 6:30 p.m. - 12:00 a.m.
While some roads will re-open around 10 as the cyclists move along their bike routes, many will stay closed right til midnight - so I'd try and avoid these areas by car if you can.

Then on Sunday, the main event of GO BIKE MTL will see road closures spread out much further throughout the island of Montreal.
Tour de l'Île de Montréal has planned roadblocks throughout Montreal's downtown, Plateau, Mile-Ex, and both the north-east and south-east areas of the island.
The event will begin along Ave. du Parc at 9:00 a.m. and most of these roads will remain closed all morning, through the afternoon and to about 4:00 p.m.

Essentially, Montreal's roads will be a bit messier this Friday night, and then on Sunday - they will be totally chaotic!
I suggest that you leave the car at home, and use the metro - or better yet, use a bike! It is a bike festival after all, right?
