Montrealers already experienced a deadly heat wave that killed up to 70 people in Quebec. And now it appears we're is going to be hit with more dangerous temperatures.
Saturday, things will start heating up. It will be 30°C, but it will feel like 38°C. Then on Sunday it's going to feel like 40°C! And it won't cool down until at least Wednesday.
Luckily this heat wave will only last a few days so the danger won't be nearly as high as the first one. As you remember, during the first wave, the humidex hit 48°C!
To be safe, Sante Montreal recommends that during periods of extreme heat you should:
- Spend a few hours a day in a cool, preferably air-conditioned place.
- Drink a lot of water, even before you feel thirsty.
- Reduce physical effort.
If you believe you or someone you know is suffering from heat exhaustion, look out for the following symptoms: dehydration, dry mouth, headaches, dizziness, confusion, fainting.
Call Info-Santé at 8-1-1. Or if you develop a fever in addition to those symptoms, it's a sign you may have heatstroke. In this case, call 9-1-1.
