Montreal Is Hosting A LEGO Festival This Weekend

No one can ignore the mass appeal for the tiny little plastic bricks known as LEGO. No matter your age, LEGOs hold a special place in your heart, which is why it's just so sad there are so few opportunities to showcase our adoration for the building blocks of childhood amusement.

This weekend will be different, though, as we'll all be able to live out our love of LEGOs at the Ciné Brique LEGO festival, a tripart event that will have something for every kind of LEGO-lover.

What will appeal to most folks reading is Ciné Brique's "LEGO Exhibition," which is pretty much exactly what it sounds like. Here, you'll be able to witness the awe-inspiring LEGO creations crafted by your fellow Montrealers. No doubt your LEGO town from when you were a kid will be put to shame.

Better yet, for all of the folks who are worried that they'll be the token adult without kids while parents bring their young brats to the festival, Ciné Brique is reserving a special section of the event solely for AFOLs, otherwise known as Adult Fans of Lego. Basically, you'll be able to indulge in your LEGO-fixation, without looking like a man/woman-child.

But at the core of Ciné Brique is the "Brick Film Festival." The first of its kind to be held in Canada, the Brick Film Festival is a showcase of the works of local "brickfilmers," those who make stop-motion movies using solely LEGO. Think the LEGO Movie, just on a smaller scale.

15 brickfilms have been chosen for Ciné Brique's competition, all of which will be judged by a jury, with the chance to win a prize and special mentions.

Montreal's first-ever Ciné Brique LEGO festival is actually going down a bit outside Montreal, at the Cosmodôme - Laval, this weekend from November 20th to 22nd. Each specific event has a different schedule, so be sure to head to the official Ciné Brique website for all the details.
