A strange new plan.
Montreal Is Now Spying On The City's Taxi Drivers To Make Sure They Don't F*ck You Over

The public image of Montreal's taxi industry hasn't been all that pristine lately.

For one, all the traditional taxi companies, and their employees, the drivers, are constantly being compared to Uber in terms of service. Some may argue against Uber, but no one can deny the superior convenience of the transport app.

Then, of course, there's the ongoing f*ck ups enacted by Montreal's taxi drivers.

Last year, a string of sexual assaults were linked to taxi drivers (with the SPVM being ridiculous enough to say women shouldn't take taxis alone), an ongoing problem that persists, with many cases left unreported.

Sexual assault aside (not that we're minimizing that very real issue), Montrealers are simply fed up with the lack of professionalism on the part of the city's traditional taxi drivers, especially when they randomly take advantage of you.

And now the Montreal taxi bureau has taken the hint, and will be launching a new initiative that will (hopefully) improve the level of quality when taking a cab.

To put it succinctly, the Montreal taxi bureau will be sending out "mystery passengers" that will spy on cab drivers.

Hoping to get a real picture of how drivers treat passengers, 150 mystery riders will get in cabs around the city and evaluate drivers, according to Global News.

Another aspect of the plan will be "taking  surveys from customers and streamlining their complaint system."

But will this really improve anything? Well, hopefully the random evaluations will weed out the worst of the city's taxi drivers, while also allowing the truly professional ones to stand out.

On the other hand, now that we're all talking about the taxi-driver-spies, drivers may be on their toes and act all nice and pleasant in fear of being reprimanded, which isn't a solution to an ongoing problem. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
