There are a few parallels between Montreal and New Orleans – both cities have a vibrant music and arts scene, a French-influenced culture, and a strong history of partying longer and harder than our neighbors.
This summer, Montreal festivities carry on into the late night New Orleans-style with free shows hosted by the stunning Casino de Montréal that will keep the International Jazz Festival going from 11pm onwards. With three performances per night on two weekends over the summer, the Casino will present all the sounds of the South - without the humidity of Louisiana.
First up is Papagroove, a self-described afro-funk group who will be taking over the Valet de Carreau Bar from June 30th to July 1st. Mixing the energies of jazz and rock, Papagroove’s many members and fast-paced improvisational groove will have your head spinning faster than prohibition-era booze.
Also performing at the Valet de Carreau is The Liquor Store, a hip-hop/jazz/funk band whose contagious rhythms will be joined onstage by an array of musicians and rappers to keep you dancing late into the evenings of July 7-8.
And starting June 30th, celebrate your wins to the tunes of the Dixieband, a six-piece ensemble with over 35 years of experience serving up New Orleans jazz, performing on foot and taking the Casino by storm from 4pm until 7pm.
