Montreal Opens New "Saw" Movie Themed Escape Room

Let's play a game.
Montreal Opens New "Saw" Movie Themed Escape Room

If you know me, you know that I am a die hard horror movie FANATIC. I love a good horror movie, the gorier the better. Does that make me a little bit psychotic? Perhaps, but there's no better feeling than the rush you get when you're watching your favourite horror movie on the edge of your seat, gripping your boyfriend's arm for dear life.

Now, because I love scary movies so much, it's kind of hard to impress me. So it's no surprise that my all-time favourite movie to date is Saw. I remember when the first Saw movie came out in 2004, I was absolutely hooked.

So you can probably imagine how excited I was when I heard that a brand new "Saw" movie inspired escape game had just opened up in Montreal. Of course, I had to go in and try it out, I mean, this escape room was basically built for me.

Last week, I took a little trip to Escaparium, a family-run business that has the best real-life escape games in the entire city. I've written a couple of articles about some of their other escape games because they're meant to be talked about and even more, they're meant to be played!

So because I've tried all of their different games, it only made sense to play their latest escape game called "The Game". This particular one was inspired by the Saw franchise and let me tell you, is it ever worth checking out.

I arrived at Escaparium around 7:30 PM, probably not the best time to play a scary escape game, but #YOLO. I dragged my boyfriend with me along with four of my friends who are also escape game connoisseurs. We had looked up the game prior to our arrival just to see if we could get an idea of what to expect. Needless to say, we were definitely excited.

Right before we entered the room, we were handcuffed and blindfolded, which absolutely intensified the scare factor and really made me feel like I was in the first Saw movie. Of course, this is completely optional however, I think it makes the experience even more real. The idea behind "The Game" is that you wake up in a room, not knowing how you got there. You have an hour to escape or else a blanket of poisonous gas will be distributed inside the room. Sounds simple enough right?

Wrong.

Within the first minute of the game, we were allowed to take off our blindfolds only to discover that we had been handcuffed to a metal chain inside a torture room. There was even a saw in the middle of the room, amongst other torture tools... It honestly felt like I was on the set of the Saw movie. Not only that but as the clock was ticking, the room slowly started filling up with "poisonous" gas... A friendly reminder that our time was running out.

We spent about 15 minutes before we were able to put the puzzle together and move on to the next room. Yeah, did I mention that there's more than one room?

The next torture chamber we found ourselves in was just a frightening as the first one. The clock was ticking, we knew we had to escape before one of us lost a limb. Well, after multiple attempts and a little bit of luck, we were finally able to crack the code and move on to the third room

This was by far the scariest rooms in the game. There were three dolls that I couldn't even bear to look at, all encased in glass. At first, they weren't that terrifying, that was until they started moving. You could feel their eyes on you, watching your every single move...

When we finally got to the last room, however, I'm going to keep this one a mystery. Just know that the game gets better and better with each room you unlock! Our friendship was tested throughout this entire experience but after coming together as a team, we were able to escape with six minutes to spare.

I can honestly say that was the best and most stressful hour of my life. What really made the game come alive though was the narrator whose voice sounded exactly like Jigsaw himself. He wasn't shy to let you know that time was running out... which only made me frazzled and stressed that I wasn't going to make it out in time.

But, we did make it out, you know, since I'm writing this article. However, there's only so much that I can share with you. If you want to experience the most fun hour of your life, you're going to want to check out "The Game" for yourself. The technology behind these games is ridiculous and you can tell that they are constantly pushing the boundaries, making each game the very best.

So what are you waiting for? Grab your friends and get ready for the most exciting escape game of your life.
