Hydro-Québec is reporting that over 13,000 customers are without electricity in a large power outage in Montreal. On its website, Hydro lists an "accident or incident" as the reason for the outage, which is focused in the downtown area.

In a reply to a customer Tweet, the company further explains that emergency services requested the cut to electricity as they intervene in a situation involving a gas leak.

UPDATE 14:40: The number of Hydro-Québec customers without electricty is now down to just over 100.

EARLIER: On its own Twitter account, Sécurité Incendie Montréal alerted the public to a leak at the corner of rues Richmond et St-Antoine Ouest. That intervention has since come to an end. It is unclear whether this is the same incident that led to the power cut.

Estimated times of power restoration range between 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m.

We will update this article as more information becomes available.
