Eating well is pretty easy to do in Montreal. From fast and affordable to sit-down expensive, the city has it all when it comes to gustatory pleasures. Streets ahead of any other Canadian city, Montreal can even contend with whole world when it comes to top-notch cuisine. Anyone in Montreal would instantly agree, and so would critics who don't hail from the city, as proven with Montreal being named one of the world's 18 best foodie cities by Thrillist.

On their list of 18 cities, Montreal was placed at modest number 13, which isn't too shabby given that thousands of cities didn't even make the list. New York was the only city in North America to beat out Montreal, ranking 5th overall, with Bologna and Bordeaux claiming the two top spots.

Thrillist was sure to explain why each city was ranked on their list, and while Montreal's short write-up obviously had references to bagels, smoked meat, and poutine, they did point out the awesomeness that is Jean-Talon market and "dep cuisine" spots like Le Pick Up. Most people talking about Montreal cusine can't get over the iconic/stereotypical foods of the city, so it was refreshing to read about Montreal's food culture from an outside perspective that wasn't going on about poutine.
