Montreal Artists Make Their Mark On The Streets Of Miami For Art Basel 2013

Montreal surprisingly has great presence here in Miami this year. Art Basel has spread across Miami, from the downtown area to the sunny beaches of South Beach, but Wynwood Miami is definitely the mega-center of this huge outdoor art festival. Literally every square inch is being painted or creatively covered.
From 4-story walls, to the sticker covered stop signs, all the way to the street art painted on the sidewalks! We're (Station 16) really excited to be here and cover it all, and we've made sure to emphasize the Montreal presence! Montreal artists Omen, Five8, Kevin Ledo and A Squid called Sebastian of Belgium are painting and impressing even the biggest names in street art.
On Day one of the fest (Thursday Dec.4th) we somehow found ourselves in the "Vanity Fair Cadillac Dinner", the opening dinner to the fest with the Goldman Family (creators and organizers of the fest) and some of the biggest artists at Miami this year, including Shepard Fairey, Ron English, Kenny Scharf, and all the women on the walls (a new section of the fest devoted to the talented women of street art!) such as Lady Aiko, Miss Van, Faith47 and Olek!
It seemed as though everything just fell into place, as we were somehow amongst all these talented names (the dinner is closed to the public), introducing ourselves and telling them about the Montreal art scene and MURAL festival! And of course our 'exotic' city, never ceases to allure even the biggest names in art! So don't be surprised if you see some these names in our city very soon!
There are dozens of gallery shows and openings everyday, and we are trying to cover them all with our time here. Today we make our way to South Beach to cover Scope (one of the biggest gallery shows in Basel) and the Faile & Bast "Deluxx Fluxx" arcade show. More to come, as the walls are now almost completely done, and their audience has arrived!
