Montreal Teacher Loses Her Job Because Of "Porno" Movie She Was In

73-year-old high-school drama instructor Jacqueline Laurent-Auger, who has been teaching at Brébeuf College for more than a decade, has been fired because of events that took place over 40 years ago. The cause for her termination: acting in "erotic films" in the 1970s.
Laurent-Auger's semi-scandalous film career was made public knowledge at Brébeuf after some male students looked up the teacher online. What they probably stumbled upon is Laurent-Auger's IMDB, which lists such films as "Hot & Naked," "For Men Only," and "Diary of a Nymphomaniac." Sexy stuff.
Hearing the titles of Laurent-Auger's films makes the decision by Brébeuf to cut Laurent-Auger seem justified, though the films aren't nearly as bad as you'd think. According to Laurent-Auger, the movies are less pornographic and much more "light...nothing to do with the kinds of things you see today.” JdeM backs up her claim, stating her one film "Diary of A Nymphomaniac" would barely be PG-13 nowadays.
A ton of backlash has already been felt by Brébeuf for firing Laurent-Auger, with the school justifying its decision by saying that the teacher created a "model to follow for high-school students" studying "theatre and arts in general." So basically, the school is saying teenagers are mindless drones incapable of autonomous thought who will directly follow in the footsteps of their teachers, in this case acting in porn films.
Most likely, as JdeM bloggerLise Ravary points out, Brébeuf is really just protecting itself by firing Laurent-Auger. Using the veil of "protecting students" the illustrious school is making sure no one can attack the institution later down the line for employing a teacher with a past in the erotic film industry.
At the end of the day it is the school's decision, no matter how unfair it is to Laurent-Auger, though I do have one question: how does such a prestigious a school not do an online background search for its employees? IMDB may not have been as a big a thing 15 years ago, but Google searches were. The fact that students uncovered Laurent-Auger's acting career, and not the school/employer in charge of assessing educators, makes the administrative staff seem a little inept, at least in the ways of the web.
