It's Finally Going To Feel Like Summer In Montreal This Week!

Montrealers got perhaps their first taste of summer weather this past weekend and even more is on the way. The seven-day forecast from The Weather Network shows Montreal temperatures crawling into the mid to upper 20s between Thursday and Tuesday, May 26. It could even "feel like" 30 C by Monday, May 25.

The Weather Network further shows six straight days of sunshine before "a few showers" on the 26th.

Environment Canada also forecasts a week of sunny skies with actual temperatures peaking around 27 C.

After Tuesday, May 19, lows aren't projected to dip below 10 C.

For context, according to historical data from Environment Canada, average daily maximum temperatures in Montreal between June and August are in the mid 20s.

The arrival of summer-like weather will also correspond with the reopening of some sporting activities and national parks across the province.

Quebec Minister for Education Isabelle Charest announced on May 13 that individual and no-contact sports would be allowed to resume as of May 20.

Cycling, rock climbing, running, rowing, kayaking, kite surfing, paddleboarding, roller skating, horse riding, tennis, and golf are just some of the activities that Charest said will be allowed to pick back up throughout the province, including the Montreal metropolitan area.

Sépaq followed up with its own announcement that, as of the same date, some national parks would once again allow day visits.

Officials still discourage non-essential travel, however, especially between regions.

So there will be no weekend hiking trips just yet.

Rapidly increasing temperatures have seen Montrealers flock to the parks in recent weekends — something officials have even encouraged.

But social distancing rules are still in place. 

All gatherings, except for those involving members of the same household and those that are necessary in the context of essential services, are still banned.

Officials, including Mayor Plante and Premier Legault, also ask Montrealers to wear masks in situations where it's difficult to maintain a two-meter distance between individuals.
