• Yelp released its ranking of the Top 100 places to eat in Canada for the upcoming here year, and 10 Montreal restaurants made the cut.

Yelp, the crowd-sourced review forum, has just released its seventh annual Top 100 Places to Eat in Canada for 2020 and one of Montreal's restaurants stole the number one spot. The Portuguese grill, Ma Poule Mouillée, made famous by the chicken and the vibrant personalities of the workers knocked out all other restaurants across the country for the coveted must-try spot. 

To determine the rankings of the top 100 spots, Yelp pulled the top restaurants by the number of reviews and ratings in 2019, with representation based on each place’s share of top-rated restaurants nationally, then curated the list with the expertise of our Community Managers." 

Montreal manages to make the list a total of 10 times, 17 in total for all of Quebec. The list is weird, interesting but weird.  It's a quirky list made up of some bigwigs like Bouillon Bilk (19) and Pied de Cochon (33) that are beaten out by a casual counter-serve eatery. 

Ma Poule Mouillée is definitely a place to try if you've never been. The chicken is arguably the best in the city and the constant lineups out the door are a testament to how good the food is overall. It's one of the few places that is worth every painstaking minute waiting outside in the cold. 

Ma Poule Mouillée has also been getting a lot of exposure for its poutines. Alas, I have not tried one yet but word has it they are way better than La Banquise, which is located directly across the road on Rachel. 

But back to the list at hand. The nine other Montreal restaurants to make the list were:

Once again, Ontario had more spots than any other city with over 40 restaurants listed, 30 of those being in and around the Toronto area. British Columbia and Alberta both came in with 18 spots on the list. 

All of these restaurant rankings have to be taken with a grain of salt. But it's great to see a restaurant like Ma Poule Mouillée get some added exposure: amazing food at great prices. Fingers crossed it doesn't make the lines even longer.
