It won't be warm much longer!
Even though students have started heading back to school, it's still officially summer until September 22. That means the race is on to check items off your end-of-summer bucket list of things to do in Montreal before fall.
There are still warm and sunny days ahead of us! Why not make the most of them?!
Spend the day at a beach[facebook https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FPiedDuCourant%2Fposts%2F4249205905168359&show_text=true&width=500" expand=1]
Why You Need To Go: You may not think of Montreal as a beach town, but there are still plenty of waterfront spots where you can soak up the sun with the sand between your toes. Whether Verdun Beach, Jean-Doré Beach, Clock Tower Beach or Cap-Saint-Jacques Nature Park, what says summer more than a day at the beach?
If you want to turn your beach hang into a party, Pied-du-Courant's end-of-season event is on September 4 and 5. You can expect music, refreshments, DJs and dancing.
Rent a jet-ski or pontoon boat with friends
Price: Pontoons start at $600 on weekdays for four hours; Two-person jet-ski models are available for $115 for an hour or $57.50 per person
Address: Marina St-Tropez, 23, 39e Ave., Saint-Blaise-sur-Richelieu, QC
Why You Need To Go: Cruise the Richelieu River in good company... before the water freezes over.
BBQ as you float on an inflatable donut
Price: Starting at $325 for three hours (maximum of eight people)
Address: Marina de Boucherville, Boucherville, QC & Aventure Mille-Îles, Laval, QC
Why You Need To Go: Like delicious barbecued food? Like floating on water? This activity combines two of life's greatest pleasures.
Taste test your way to the best ice cream in town
Why You Need To Go: While you can definitely eat ice cream all year round, it's so much better in the summer!
Watch a movie outdoors
Why You Need To Go: There's nothing like watching a movie under the stars!
There are a number of places where you can do this in the city. Jardin Royalmount is showing In The Heights on September 5 or there's a free screening of Monsieur Lazhar downtown on September 2. If you're willing to drive, there's always Ciné-Parc.
Swim in your neighbour's pool (or... you know... another pool)
Price: Depends! If you use the Swimply app, prices average US$45 per hour.
Why You Need To Go: Don't let the fact that you don't have a pool stop you from swimming outside before the end of summer. You can rent a pool for a few hours using Swimply, go to a public pool or pay to access a private pool, like the one at Club LaCité.
Do a mural crawl
Why You Need To Go: This year's Mural Festival blessed our city with stunning new street art. It won't cost you a dime to see it — simply walk around and enjoy, creating your own mural crawl.
Check out an outdoor market
Why You Need To Go: Whether you want to sample Asian street eats at the night market under Chinatown's wish tree, or go back in time to an 18th-century public market at the Pointe-à-Callière Museum, there's something for everyone. Atwater and Jean-Talon never seem to get old, either.
Shop at a massive sidewalk sale
Price: Free entry
When: September 10 to 12
Address: Rue Sainte-Catherine (pedestrianized between Rue de Bleury and Rue Chomedey)
Why You Need To Go: Sainte-Catherine shopfronts move onto the street to become what's been billed as Canada's largest sidewalk sale.
Take a $5 river shuttle to a secret bayou
Price: $5 per adult for a one-way trip; Daily access to the park is $9 per adult plus additional fees for equipment rentals
When: July 1 to September 6 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Address: The shuttle departs from 8300, rue Bellerive, Montreal, QC
Why You Need To Go: The ultimate summer escape and it's only 30 minutes away! It will have you wondering if this is Louisiana or Quebec.
Hike in search of great views & waterfalls
Why You Need To Go: You've been saying you were going to do it all summer, so it's finally time to ACTUALLY go on a hike. Whether you stay in the city and walk up Mount Royal, drive 45 minutes to Oka or drive one hour and 45 minutes to Centre de plein air de l'UQAM (where you can actually swim at the base of a waterfall), now's your chance!
Load up on cheap books & read in the park
Why You Need To Go: Load up on books and enjoy a relaxing day of reading in one of the city's beautiful parks.
Have a picnic
Why You Need To Go: Lay down a blanket and savour the summer flowers as you chow down on yummy take-out.
Go flower picking
Price: $1.75 per flower or $15 for ten flowers
When: Thursday – Sunday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. until the end of September
Address: U-Pick Flower Farm - 504, ch. de la Concession Quesnel, St-Anicet, QC
Why You Need To Go: Last call for frolicking in these flower fields, which are just an hour outside of Montreal.
