There is nothing that says fall like pumpkin picking in Quebec. Really. There just isn't. Whether you just want to walk an orchard for the colours, are a die-hard pumpkin carver, or start to crave roasted pumpkin seeds or pies around this time, Quebec offers a surprising slew of farms to visit.
Which led me to the question, what does a pumpkin patch actually look like? Are these pics of real pumpkin patches? Because they really look like someone just strew about some pumpkins on a picturesque movie set, threw some cable-knit sweaters on Instagrammers and let them loose in a photo-friendly, natural habitat.
But if you want more from your pumpkin picking experience than a trip to the local Maxi, these farms are a great way to spend an afternoon. There are activities for everyone with the option of corn maze labyrinths, hayrides, beer, and cider tastings, and the chance to visit and pet some adorable farm animals.
Unless otherwise noted, all of the farms listed below are open now until the end of October — though it could vary depending on inventory.

Verger du Flanc du Nord
Where: 835 Chemin Rouillard, Mont-Saint-Hilaire
Dates: From mid-October to November
You can pick pumpkins to your heart's content at this u-pick patch. For Halloween, they have themed events (check their website for dates) where you're encouraged to get in the holiday spirit by wearing a costume.
Le Centre d'Interprétation De La Courge
Where: 839 Main Road, Saint-Joseph-du-Lac
Sure you've picked pumpkins, but have you picked pumpkins while pleasantly pickled? This pumpkin patch also has a vineyard and microbrew on site. They hold tastings starting at just $5.
Plantations Stéphan Perreault
Where: 331 Rte 143, Val-Joli
Now's the time to head to this farm in the quaint municipality of Val-Joli. There is a Halloween kiosk housed in an old barn, a creepy corn maze (well, in my mind they're all creepy) and pick-your-own pumpkin and squash patches.
Vergers et Ciderie Denis Charbonneau
Where: 575 Rang de la Montagne, Mont-Saint-Grégoire
Dates: September and October; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
There is a ton to do at this orchard; taste their homemade ciders, check out the mini animal farm, stroll through the orchards or take a horse drawn ride around the site.
Ferme Roberge Courges Et Citrouilles
Where: 1895 Chemin Royal, Saint-Pierre
This is the farm for anything gourd, squash or pumpkin. The grounds are breathtaking and perfect to enjoy the colours of autumn. There is also a cornfield labyrinth to get lost in.
Verger Labonte
Where: 2291 Boulevard Perrot, Notre-Dame-de-l'Île-Perrot
Along with the usual u-pick activities, you can also participate in any one of their three giant corn mazes. And it's only a 25-minute drive from Montreal.
La Courgerie
Where: 2321 Rang Grand Saint Pierre, Sainte-Élisabeth
This farm happens to be run by squash fanatics. Other than pumpkins, you can pick more varieties of squashes and gourds than you knew ever existed.
Quinn Farm
Where: 2495 Boul Perrot; Notre-Dame-de-l’Ile-Perrot
Every weekend from September 21 until October 14, Quinn Farm holds a fall festival party. Go for the awesome pumpkins but stay for the food truck, live music, and pony rides. But be aware that entrance to the farm during the festival costs $9 per person.
La Magie de la Pomme
Where: 925 Rang de la Fresnière, Saint-Eustache
Don't let the name fool you, La Magie de la Pomme may love their apples, but they invest just as much care into their pumpkins. They will also hold a pumpkin festival from October 12-14 where you can attend a pumpkin carving workshop.
Les Citrouillards

This cute pumpkin farm in Saint-Eustache absolutely loves Halloween. Along with some spooky surprises, they invite guests to dress up in their favourite costumes when they visit.
Domain Labranche
Where: 565 Rang Saint-Simon, Saint-Isidore-de-Laprairie
Dates: Friday & Saturdays from September 21 to October 27 / Sundays for lunch
Have you ever been to an apple sugar shack? Domaine Labranche is the perfect place to go if you haven't. After enjoying a gourmet harvest-inspired feast, you can also check out their hiking trails and u-pick pumpkin patches.
La Fille Du Roy
Where: 1920 Rue Saint-Simon, Sainte-Madeleine
Before you head to the pumpkin patch, take a stop at their corn maze or get a sample of some of their local products inside the century-old bard. They will also hold a special pumpkin party on October 5. Keep an eye on their website for more details.
Le Potager Mont-Rouge Halte Gourmande

All of the pumpkin flowers at this orchard are grown by the pollination of honey bees. As a fourth-generation farming family, they know how to utilize nature to bring the best organic products to their customers
Labonté de la Pomme Verger & Miellerie
Where: 405 rang de l'Annonciation, Oka
There are over 25 varieties of apples, cherries, plums, pears, and pumpkins you can pick. This agritourism farm is best known for its outdoor wood-burning stove, authentic apple shack, and artisanal local products.
Ferme Genest
Where: 2091 Marie-Victorin, Lévis Road (Saint-Nicolas)
Genest farm has pumpkins as far as the eye can see. They are the largest producer of pumpkins and squash in Quebec. They have over 100,000 in their fields!
Ferme Reid
Where: 485 Rte 133, Sabrevois
They may specialize in corn and strawberries, but every weekend until October 31 you can also choose a pumpkin to take home from this little farm.
La Citrouille Enchantée
Where: 1380 Rang 10 ET 11, Ste-Clotilde-de-Horton
The Enchanted Pumpkin — just the name is reason enough to go. But you can also take part in their picnic and game areas. If you want a little spook, try out their Halloween labyrinth.
Vergers Pierre Tremblay et Fils

You can kill a few hours with all the activities here. There is pumpkin picking, games, mini-farms, shops, tractor rides, and gorgeous walking trails.

Not only can you pick pumpkins and sunflowers at this Orford farm, but you can do it while sipping a taste of their microbrew beer. Due to weather conditions, only group bookings are available at this time.
