If finding love was one of your 2020 new year's resolutions, it's important to have a handful of Montreal date ideas up your sleeve for those days when your swiping ends up being successful. I say a handful of date ideas because not every date idea works for every person, so you want to make sure you choose an activity or outing that vibes with the person you're heading out with.

Of course, you can't do wrong with a walk through the park. But, these days that could turn out to be a little treacherous, what with all the snow and all.

Dates can also end up costing a fortune if you're not careful. And after a season of holiday spending, it's hard not to hold the purse strings a little tighter than usual.

So, I went out to try and find some cheap date ideas for six different types of people. This way, you've got a fun, unique date idea that won't cost you a fortune - and it doesn't matter if you've swiped right on a gamer or a foodie. We've got you covered.

For The Outdoor-Lover

There is truly a wealth of options when it comes to activities up on Mount Royal. Les amis de la montagne offer rentals and instructions to get you cross-country skiing or snowshoeing around the mountain.

The cost to rent equipment is super affordable, with the most expensive rental being $20 for 3 hours with a pair of cross-country skis.

Plus, you can also skate just outside the Beaver Lake Pavillion for free, and they're hosting musical skating nights so you can boogie while you glide.

For The Foodie

Happening Gourmand is celebrating its 13th year in Montreal and it kicks off this Thursday, January 16, 2020, and runs until February 9, 2020.

This event provides a pretty amazing way for foodies to explore some unreal, gourmet Old Port restaurants that they otherwise might pass up on because of price.

There are three dinner table d’hôte price points, $25, $29, and $35, each with different restaurants to choose from. So all you have to do is decide your budget and go from there!

They also have a $17 brunch table d’hôte menu and new this year, a $12 happy hour option.

For The Adrenaline Junkie

If sitting around and sipping wine is just not enough action for you and your date, consider this Action 500 combo that will let you get a little taste of everything this adrenaline-junkie heaven has to offer.

Tuesdays at Action 500 all sports are only $20, meaning you can play paintball or laser tag, go go-karting or escape an escape room for only $20.

Plus, you can also splurge a little more and create a sports combo, letting you choose a couple of the activities listed above for only $50.

For The Gamer

Of course, you can always just invite your date over to play some Mario Kart. But, if your N64 is busted then try something a little more tactile. There are a couple Montreal spots where you and a date can play some games over a coffee or a beer.

If arcades are your thing, head to Amusement 2000 in Laval, or Arcade MTL on Saint-Denis.

If you're looking for a more tabletop vibe, there are a handful of options.

Randolph Pub Ludique in the Quartier Latin has everything from beer and cocktails to quiz nights and tournaments. In the Plateau, try Le Colonel Moutarde where the menu has a little something for everyone and there are over 500 games to choose from. Or, head to La Récréation Café if you and your date prefer coffee while you game.

For The Newbie To Montreal

If the name of the game for your date is showing off this beautiful city then you might want to just pick up a couple day passes for the STM because there is a lot to see that is totally free.

From L'Oratoire Saint Joseph to the many lookouts on Mount Royal, our public transit can get you to some breathtaking views in no time.

Stroll through Parc La Fontaine as people skate nearby or walk hand-in-hand through Old Montreal, peeking into the many gallery windows.

Plus, you can always head to the L'Observatoire Place Ville Marie. The ticket price for adults is $21.85 but students only pay $17.25.

For The Art Lover

Montreal has more than a couple museums that are totally worth a visit if you or your date are an art lover.

There's the Museum of Contemporary Art, which offers half-price admission every Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. as well as free admission on the first Sunday of every month for Quebec residents (proof of residency is required).

Then there's the Museum of Fine Arts, where Wednesdays are only $12 after 5 p.m. and the first Sunday of the month is free to all who want to visit the Discovery Exhibitions and Collections.

For a full list of all the museums in Montreal, whether they focus on art or history, head to Musées Montreal here.
