The snow is melting, the birds are chirping, and that means spring is right around the corner. Montreal is a great city all year round, but once the warmer weather arrives, it truly reaches its peak. But, that doesn't mean that we locals can't seek out a little escape when the hectic city becomes too much. Luckily for us, some of the lakes in Quebec have the most beautifully coloured waters I've ever seen, making them perfect spots for a much-needed getaway.

There are a ton of Instagram worthy spots in Montreal. But let's face it, posing along a lake surrounded by nature always has a way of getting the attention of your followers, all while being a good spot to relax as well.

And, to make your escape even easier, there a slew of cool Airbnbs to rent throughout the province, in case you're looking to make a weekend out of their stay. But each of these lakes is close enough for you to drive to and back in one day — depending on how adventurous you are, of course.

Once the warm weather hits, you are going to want to grab you BFF and hit to the road towards one of these picture-perfect lakes, which are all ideal for a mini escape from the city.

Blue Sea Lake

Distance from Montreal: 3 hours & 40 minutes

Blue Sea Lake is known for its crystal clear waters. Surrounded by cottages and nature, Blue Sea Lake is a fantastic place to blow off some steam during the hectic heat waves that take over during the summertime.

And, best of all, it's in driving distance from Montreal, so you can even make a weekend escape out of it.

Lac Masson

Distance from Montreal: 1 hour & 10 minutes

Not only is this lake a quick drive from Montreal but it also happens to be one of the most beautiful lakes in the area. The beautiful waters are filled with swimmers and boats throughout the summer months and it's without a doubt one of the most fun lakes to check out.

And, as a bonus, the stunning homes that surround it and abundance of nature will keep you in awe all throughout the day.

Lake Magog

Distance from Montreal: 1 hour & 30 minutes

This freshwater lake in Quebec is located in the Appalachian geological province. The lake itself consists of sedimentary rock including sandstone and slate.

Not only is it close to Montreal, but it also happens to be one of the most fun and beautiful spots to check out during the spring and summer months — at least in my book.

The beautiful water and natural beauty surrounding it make it a must for anyone seeking water-filled adventures this summer.

Distance from Montreal: 1 hour & 10 minutes

Located in Knowlton, Lac-Brome is a great place for anyone looking to connect to nature and maybe catch a fish or two, if you have your fishing license that is.

With 17 species of fish within the lake, Lac-Brome is an ideal spot for anyone seeking a fun-filled water day without having to travel too far from Montreal.

Lac Du Moulin

Distance from Montreal: 1 hour

The beautiful water and surrounding nature found at Lac Du Moulin is incredible and worth the hour commute. From the moment you lay your eyes on the glistening water, you will be compelled to jump in and cool off within the lake.

Pink Lake

Distance from Montreal: 2 hours & 45 minutes

Located a little less than 3 hours from Montreal in Gatineau Park, Pink Lake has some of the most beautiful waters you can find in the province.

Although the water is turquoise and not pink, it's still worth the drive to see it for yourself. The meromictic lake is seeping with beauty, which is why it's a must for you to check out as soon as the warm weather hits our province.

Although this is the only spot on the list where you can't swim, the water is so spectacular that it was worth mentioning.
