A Korean Street Food Market Is Opening In Montreal's Mile End

And it's about time!
A Korean Street Food Market Is Opening In Montreal's Mile End

So much food! So little time and stomach space! Montreal is home to so many food festivals throughout the year. But in my humble opinion, the one we've been lacking over the years has been Korean food

Not anymore! Coming to Montreal's Mile End July 26th-July 28th is Pocha MTL and I couldn't be happier.

Pojangmacha, or 'Po Cha,' is huge in South Korea and basically means a tented area that sells food, they're most popular as late-night eats; think La Banquise with less poutine and more BBQ. And I am all for it.

If you've never tasted food like Dakganjeong—a deliciously deep-fried crispy chicken dish or jokbal—pig's feet smothered in spices—then now is the time to do it. And if you like living dangerously opt for the insanely spicy buljokbal—literally "fire jokbal."

Come for the food and stay for the drinks! Pocha MTL will also have a drinks bar set up based on soju cocktails.

Don't know what soju is? Then you are behind the times (as I am, it turns out). Soju is actually the world's top-selling liquor by volume. It's kind of like vodka, but a little sweeter. The taste can vary dramatically, so I can't wait to see what the vendors come up with.

It's not only about stuffing your face. There will be entertainment from well-known K-pop performers along with traditional Korean performers.

This will be your chance for an all-around authentic Korean experience!

But back to the mouth-watering food. Here's a list of some of the more notable restaurants taking part and what you should try from each:

Pocha de Marie: Try the Dakganjeong

Picks: Try the Kogo, a Korean pogo. Need we say more?

Raku: Try the Jokbal & Buljokbal

Luna: Try their Jaeyuk & Bulgogi Deopbap, rice with Pork Sautéed Chicken or Sauteed Beef

It's free to enter the festival and catch the shows, you just pay for what you want to eat or drink. And you can even bring your dog!
