Almost The Entire Green Line Shut Down This Morning
- The Montreal experienced a significant shutdown this morning.
- Almost the entirety of the Green line was forced to shut down due to an equipment problem.
- Full shutdown details below.
The Montreal STM metro system is experiencing some difficulties this morning. The Green line is almost completely shut down between Lionel-Groulx and Honore-Beaugrand right now, meaning commuters who use the Green line are likely going to be a little late for work today.
According to the STM the shut down has been caused by "equipment on the tracks problem," with service not expected to resume for at least a half-hour.
The Green line faced some issues yesterday, as well, with lines being down early in the morning and in the afternoon, though not for a very extensive period of time. Around 6 a.m., the Green line faced the presence of smoke, which was not resolved until around 7 a.m.
When I used the Green line yesterday around noon, the smell was still quite apparent, and there were still some delays.
Today, the STM is hoping that the problem will be resolved by 9 a.m., meaning commuters should soon be on their way if all goes as planned.
The STM Green line responded to a tweet at 8:30 this morning, explaining that there was an "equipment problem on the tracks."
@leandroestrela We are experiencing a service disruption between métro stations Honoré-Beaugrand and Lionel-Groulx… https://t.co/681blDuB3Y— Ligne Verte (@Ligne Verte) 1572265991.0
Lionel-Groulx provides a connection between the Orange and Green lines, so if that's where you're stuck, you're in luck. Otherwise, you'll likely want to consider an alternative.
In addition to replying to the passenger question above, the STM also tweeted the following:
Shutdown GREEN line between L-Groulx and H-Beaugrand. Equipment on tracks problem. Service expected to resume at 9:00. #stminfo K— Ligne Verte (@Ligne Verte) 1572265798.0
STM officers were present at Lionel-Groulx station attempting to keep crowds in control and reminding them, loudly, to keep back from the yellow line.
Yesterday, the STM set up a shuttle to run between Angrignon and Atwater, to help out passengers while the train line was down.
Today, the STM did not shuttle between Lionel-Groulx and Honore-Beaugrand, likely because that is almost the entirety of the line. The Green line is now apparently back to regular service.
Passengers are probably best to just take a little walk south to the Orange line and make their commute that way, though, as it sometimes takes a while for things to really get back to speed.
