So, you're starting university in Montreal this year, and you're wondering where to go for drinks with your friends. Luckily, Montreal has no shortage of fantastic bars.
The following list has bars with great, laid back atmospheres, good music and, most importantly, cheap drinks. They're great places to go if you've got a group of friends - you'll be able to find big tables, sit around and talk all night long - but they'll also be a great place for you to meet new people, too.
These bars are all located pretty close to various universities, so they're perfect for those days when you want to head straight from the library to the bar. We won't judge you if you decide to take a few shots at these places immediately after studying.
We've also included a handful of places that transition perfectly into a club so if you're trying to dress up and get your dance on, there's something for you here, too, don't worry. And we've even made sure we've got a couple places for those who like a little competition while drinking... foosball, pool, even beer pong! So you don't have to host all those beer pong tournies at your house... no more sticky floor. Nice.

Biftek is a real OG dive bar, with drink deals so cheap you shouldn't think about it for too long and a great vibe every night of the week. Make sure to bring change so that you can play pool and pinball. Cash only and student night is on Thursday.
Where: 3581 St Laurent Blvd
This bar has a casual yet elevated vibe, with delicious seasonal cocktails. The drinks can get expensive ($12ish for a cocktail), but that's why you gotta go during happy hour, where drinks are 2 for 1. Pst: Wednesday nights are where it's at, with cheap deals on shots. And on Sundays, all wine bottles are 50% off.

Where: 156 rue Roy Est

Where: 2041 rue St-Denis
Randolf's is a super fun place to go with friends. It's a board game bar, so you can sip on beers while destroying your friends at Catan. 10/10 a good way to bond with new people.

Coffee shop by day, bar by night, Darling is one of the best bars in the Mile End. They don't serve a ton of food, but it's a great, laid-back place to hang out and enjoy a reasonably-priced drink. Plus... their decor demands a couple Insta pics.

Where: 245 rue Sherbrooke Ouest

This bar is always hopping, and it's probably because of their ridiculously cheap drink deals. They also have live bands pretty much every night, and themed nights dedicated to certain bands, like Metallica and the Offspring.
