The Best Places To Go Apple Picking Near Montreal This Fall

It's officially the height of the apple-picking season. With the chilly weather this morning it feels like the perfect time to break out that favourite cable-knit sweater, wrap-around scarf, and Wellies so you can head to your nearest orchard to pick apples to your heart's content.
There is no shortage of orchards in Quebec, offering up everything from apples, and pumpkins, to squashes and a load of different fruits to pick from year-round. But if you want to take in a true fall experience and enjoy the start of the leaves turning, September is the time to go.
Depending on the type of apple varietals, most orchards have been open since mid-August or will open in the first week of September.
So now is the time to live out that Hallmark movie dream of apple picking, taking tractor rides, getting adorably lost in corn mazes and ending the day with a wholesome cider and slice of pie.
With that in mind, we rounded up 10 of the best apple picking spots that aren't too far from Montreal.
Unfortunately, because of new government rules, dogs are no longer welcome at most of the orchards. But we did manage to find one if you just can't bear to be away from your pup for too long.
La Magie de la Pomme
Where: 925 Chemin Fresnière, Saint-Eustache
Magie de la Pomme has been a family run business for over 8 generations now. In the fall you can pick as many apples as you want (or can carry) beginning on September 2, they have a mini-farm and restaurant on-site and in the winters they also have a sugar shack.
Verger Richard Legault
Where: 425 Rue Binette, Saint-Joseph-du-Lac
This orchard has been open for apple picking since June. If you have pets, this is the place to go. You can take a leisurely stroll through the trees with Fido since Richard Legault is so dog-friendly. They even have custom-built pet furniture you can check out.
Vergers Écologiques Philion
Where: 389 route 202, Hemmingford
Whatever you plan on using your apples for be it jams, pies or just as a bucket of snacks, this orchard has you covered. They have a huge selection of varietals and will guide you to the right apple type depending on how you plan to use them.
La Tête Dans Les Pommes
Where: 1673 Chemin Principal, Saint-Joseph-du-Lac
This is one of the cutest orchards. They have tractor rides, a small farm, picnic areas and everything one would need to keep a child (or yourself) entertained. Oh yeah, and they have over 25 different apple varietals to choose from.

Verger Labonté
Where: 2291, blvd. Perrot, Notre Dame de l’Île Perrot
Just 25 minutes from Montreal, the Labonte orchard opens for apple picking season in September. There's a $3.00 entrance fee to the orchards and you can purchase a combo ticket to also get access to the three corn mazes.
Vergers Pierre Tremblay et Fils
Where: 375 Rang de la Montagne, Mont Saint-Grégoire
It's not just apples you can pick at this orchard. They have raspberries, strawberries, and pumpkins and if you get there in the next couple of weeks you can still pick pears.
Verger Coeur De Pomme
Where: 19 Rang Sainte-Sophie, Oka
If you want something a little more serene, give this orchard a try. It's quieter than most of the other orchards near it and has gorgeous views of the lake. They also have a small farm with donkeys, llamas, goats, rabbits, and chickens. And of course, a tractor ride that will take you to the top of the hill.
Potager Mont-Rouge Halte Gourmande
Where: 154 Rang de la Montagne, Rougemont
Forget the apples. You have to try their sweet potato doughnuts rolled in maple sugar. But really, this orchard has everything you need to have a perfect fall day: corn mazes, tractor rides, play areas, and a petting zoo. You can also pick chili peppers, eggplants and tomatoes until the end of September.
Quinn Farm
Where: 2495 Blvd. Perrot, Notre-Dame-de-l’Ile-Perrot
Quinn Farm begins apple picking season on August 31. There is an admission cost of $5 but it also gives you access to the tractor rides and animal barn.
Verger Lacroix et Cidrerie
Where: 649 Chemin Principal, Saint-Joseph-du-Lac
This cidery also allows guests to pick apples from their orchard. And if you happen to prefer your apples fermented head over to their boutique and test out their ciders, artisanal pastries, apple juice, and BBQ sauce.
