New List Ranks Best Restaurants In Montreal For When You Want To Take Yourself On A Date

There are two schools of people: those that wouldn't think twice about dining out alone and those who wouldn't be caught dead in a restaurant solo. But according to data from OpenTable, spending some quality alone time is increasingly popular. Since 2017 single person reservations have grown by 75 percent. OpenTable just released Canada’s Top 25 Restaurants For Solo Dining and a few Montreal restaurants made the list.
The list of restaurants was based on over 500,000 reviews of more than 3,000 restaurants throughout the country with the highest percent of solo reservations (along with other criteria like food and service).
Toronto had the highest amount of restaurants on the list by far with 10 spots, surprisingly Montreal restos only placed with five.
I've always been a fan of eating alone. Sometimes it's because of travel, or no one else is available on a certain night, or I don't feel like arguing with friends over where to eat. And other times I just don't feel like having to talk to another human unless they are actively bringing me food or beverages.
So, if you're thinking of treating yourself to a solo dinner, check out these five best restaurants according to OpenTable.
Chez Sophie
Where: 1974 Notre-Dame St W
Located in trendy Griffintown, Chez Sophie serves up its take on modern French and Italian-inspired dishes. The service is impeccable. The dining room is brightly lit, so if you're a little nervous about going it alone, it won't feel like you're taking yourself out for a candle-lit dinner.
Damas
Where: 1201 Ave Van Horne
Damas is a perfect cozy retreat during the winter months. Everything in the restaurant is chosen with great care, from the Syrian inspired food to the red ceiling and leather chairs. The decor is so mesmerizing you won't even care you're alone (but you shouldn't anyway).
L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon
Where: 1 avenue du Casino Casino de Montréal Pavillon du Québec
You're taking eating solo to a whole new level when you dine at this Montreal Casino resto. But surprisingly, the food will make any gourmet eater smile and the staff is super friendly without a drop of pretension.
Le Club Chasse et Peche
Where: 423 Rue Saint-Claude
Chasse et Peche is a popular date spot. So, if you need a little romance in your life, who better to dine with than your favourite person (that's you) at this intimate restaurant. The food is a more refined version of fish and game dishes and the overall decor is warm and welcoming. You won't want to leave.
Le Muscadin
Where: 443 Rue Saint Vincent
To be honest, it's a little surprising that this restaurant made the list. Not because of the food (which is amazing Italian) or the service (the waiters are so friendly you'll feel like family) - but it's a large space, sometimes with larger groups and can get rather boisterous. Then again, the 4,000 bottle wine cellar may do the trick.
