Vegetarian restaurants in Montreal are prolific, exciting, delicious and can even be so unassuming that I've nearly ordered without being quite certain if the whole menu really was vegetarian or not.
The abundant presence of veg options in Montreal shows that plant-based or plant-favoured diets are more than just a fad, it's really more of a lifestyle. And it's not just a phase either, Mom.
In a study done by Dalhousie University in 2018, over 6.4 million Canadians responded that they followed a diet that restricted meat consumption.
Nearly 55% of Canadians had considered reducing their personal meat consumption an of that, 32% of Canadians were actually willing to reduce their meat consumption over the subsequent 6 months.
As more and more Canadians choose less meat, the market for options increases, which in turn makes it easier and easier for Canadians to make that choice to choose less meat and shop more local.
And, apparently, October is Vegetarian Awareness Month! So, to celebrate, Open Table has done a ranking of the 50 Best Vegetarian Restaurants across Canada.
The list of restaurants is based on an analysis of half a million reviews of over 3,000 restaurants, nationwide. The reviews are left by verified diners and are given a rating out of 5 stars based on Ambiance, Service, Food and Overall experience. They've also opted to include "vegetarian-friendly" restaurants within the list, as well as strictly vegan restaurants.
