BREAKING: Two STM Metro Lines Have Been Shut Down Because Of An Emergency Situation

This is breaking news.

The Orange line of the Montreal metro has been shut down between Berri-UQAM and Henri-Bourassa stations because of an "intervention by emergency services," according to an official statement online and on Twitter.

Service will not resume until at least 3:25pm, meaning the entire branch of the orange line will be shut down for at least an hour.

Details are few right now, but this post will be updated with new information as it becomes available. Hopefully there are no injuries.

The STM is setting up a shuttle to run along the Orange line route between Berri-UQAM and Henri-Bourassa stations.

This latest service interuption comes as the STM contends with higher than average ridership and a wave of passenger complaints.

According to the Montreal Gazette, the emergency situation involved a medical crisis.

The Montreal police confirm that they are investigating "threatening comments" at Jean-Talon station. However, neither the SPVM nor the STM have made an explicit link between the shutdown and the investigation. Though, there certainly appears to be a connection.

Normal metro serviceis resuming on the Orange line, including Jean-Talon station. This, of course, suggests that the threat that triggered the police investigation has abated.
