Here's How To Make Your Own Cabane À Sucre At Home

One thing I can say that I truly missed this year was going to a cabane à sucre. It may be a little late in the game, but I'm a firm believer in it's better late than never. So, I found ways for you to make your own cabane à sucre at home!
Canadians living on the east coast are aware that maple syrup is basically liquid gold.
And, sugar shacks are a way of saying goodbye to winter and hello to a sugar-filled food coma.
There are so many ways of turning your apartment into a make-shift sugar shack.
The best cabanes à sucre are the ones that keep the traditional dishes alive and that's what this article will guide you towards. Some of the classic sugar shack specialties include beans, omelets, split pea soup, and sausage — all soaked in syrup.
And of course, the sugariest of all, the iconic "tire" — that's a must for this activity.
This experience can easily be recreated with a little bit of effort and imagination. I promise you, it's sure to be a fun and sugar-filled day.
The Decor
In order to set the mood, you're going to want to try to create a rustic table setting with whatever you have handy.
From checkered table cloths to brass cups and fun plates, this is where you can let your creative juices run wild.
Dress The Part
Just because you're staying home doesn't mean you can't dress for the occasion.
Braided pigtails, flannel shirts, and elastic waist pants are all welcomed at this sugar shack party.
The Food
The most iconic dishes found at a cabane à sucre are beans, omelet, split pea soup, sausage, and meat pie. You can add ham, bacon or add your own personal twist to it. Sugarpie is also a great addition for dessert and one you will not regret getting!
It's also essential for you to have coffee, juices, or water to quench all that goodness down.
The most important ingredient on the table will be the maple syrup. Make sure you purchase a good quality, authentic syrup.
The Music
Part of the fun in going to a cabane à sucre is being able to listen to some classic folk music while eating some good food.
Make sure to find a fun playlist to enjoy while noshing on all that goodness.
"La Tire"
This is arguably the best part of the experience, and thankfully it can be recreated within the comfort of your home.
All you need are popsicle sticks, a bowl, and real maple syrup.
You want to boil the maple syrup to 238 F, which could require you to use a cooking thermometer.
When the syrup is ready, pour it directly in a bowl, grab your popsicle sticks, and roll the taffy on the stick.
Then repeat until the sugar high sets in!
