With the end of the year looming, the 'best of' roundups keep on showing up. OpenTable's latest list focuses on Canada's 100 Best Restaurants in 2019. The list is considered "a comprehensive look at the year’s most beloved dining spots." But strangely, of those 100 spots, only 15 went to Quebec restaurants with 12 of those being from Montreal.
Much like the last release of Canada's best restaurants to dine solo, the list was based entirely on OpenTable's user reviews of over 500,000 verified diners across 3,000 restaurants throughout the country.
Ontario had the largest amount of restaurants that made it on the list at a total of 55. Even Alberta beat out Montreal with 19 featured spots — which seems nearly unthinkable. British Columbia came in at a lowly nine and Newfoundland and Saskatchewan both squeezed onto the list with one mention.
The restaurants that made the cut were graded on service, consistently offering unforgettable dishes and one of a kind dining experiences.
According to OpenTable's press release, "We are thrilled to recognize the restaurants that are consistently providing world-class food and drink and exceptional hospitality that showcase the country's tastes for multiculturalism and adventure."
OpenTable also revealed the top dining trends of 2019 (most of which will not surprise you).

The dining trends that were the most popular for 2019 included an increased interest in more plant-based foods (up 136% since 2017); North America cuisine is most popular for breakfast and lunch, but Italian is the number one go-to when it comes to dinner.
Healthy alternatives are the reigning champ for trends this year. Cauliflower crust was mentioned 487% more in reviews (since 2017), proving once again that the cauliflower may have the best rebranding any food has ever seen.
