The 5 Cheapest Homes For Sale Right Now In Montreal Are All Less Than $120,000

It really is possible to buy a home in the city.
The 5 Cheapest Homes For Sale Right Now In Montreal Are All Less Than $120,000
  • Below are listed the 5 cheapest homes that we could find for sale in Montreal.
  • Though Montreal is remarkable in North America for its relatively low cost of housing, prices are slowly creeping up.
  • If you're looking for an investment before prices begin to inflate more dramatically, these homes may be for you.

It's always fun to pretend that our bank accounts are endless and then look at the expensive homes for sale in Canada; like this $40 million mansion in Montreal. But what about the more realistic side of real estate?

The average cost of a home in Montreal as of March 2019 is $357,600. And with housing on the rise, is it even possible to buy property for under $120,000, and if so, what would that actually get you? Would it be liveable or would it be one step away from a closet with room for only a hot burner and mattress?

With these questions in mind, I took a look at the cheapest homes that are currently listed on the market (across DuProprio and Centris). I took into account certain criteria such as the property had to be located on the Island of Montreal, move-in ready, and with the tiny exception of one home, a walk score of 50.

At first, I was pleasantly surprised, "Oh look, it's not totally impossible to buy! Here's a condo listed at $60k!" Until I realized that only included a parking space. If you're not averse to living in your car, then I guess it might work.
