'Drastic' New Measures To Contain COVID-19 Could Be Coming To A Montreal Island Suburb

Côte-Saint-Luc city officials are taking precautions to prevent further spread of COVID-19 amongst the city's population. On Friday, several members of the Côte-Saint-Luc community tested positive for coronavirus, prompting public health officials to intervene. One person living in a local assisted living community and members of the Congregation Beth Chabad tested positive for COVID-19 and could have exposed others.
The Montreal Gazette reports that Côte-Saint-Luc Mayor Mitchell Brownstein has requested the Quebec government install a total quarantine of the entire city to mitigate a possible proliferation of the virus.
In a special meeting, the City Council says that "should the spread of COVID-19 continue to propagate, the Côte-Saint-Luc City Council requests the Provincial Government to consider drastic measures such as limiting access within the perimeter and ensure adherence by enforcing coercive measures."
According to a statement on the city's website, a patient rushed to the Jewish General Hospital on Thursday tested positive for COVID-19.
The person lives in Le King David assisted living residence at 5555, avenue Trent in Côte-Saint-Luc.
No further details have been released about this patient, but they could have exposed others to the virus. Le King David holds 104 units.

On Tuesday, the Côte-Saint-Luc City Council declared an official state of emergency in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Public health officials will be investigating the ongoing situation in Côte-Saint-Luc over the next few days.
Residents are asked to respect the recommended safety measures such as frequent hand washing, self-isolation, social distancing, and avoiding public gatherings.
