A Montreal Hospital Now Has A Drive & Walk-Thru COVID-19 Testing Station

Tests are by appointment only.
COVID-19 Testing In Montreal: CHU Sainte-Justine Introduces Drive & Walk-Thru Tests

The Sainte-Justine Children's Hospital (CHU Sainte-Justine) has just announced it will begin doing drive-through and walk-through COVID-19 testing in Montreal just outside of the hospital facilities. The hospital is one of several to introduce this testing method, along with Institut universitaire de santé mentale (IUSMQ) in Quebec City and the Hôpital de Saint-Georges in the Chaudière-Appalaches region.

At the CHU Sainte-Justine, the screening service is intended for "minors returning from a trip and presenting symptoms."

Individuals considering testing still must call the COVID-19 hotline at 8-1-1 in order to speak with a nurse. Once on the phone with a nurse, they will make an evaluation of the caller's physical condition and then schedule an appointment to come and receive the test.

Alternatively, one can fill out the online form to obtain an appointment. The online questionnaire explains that appointments at the CHU Sainte-Justine are currently reserved for "children and employees of CHU Sainte-Justine who have been in contact with a confirmed positive COVID-19 patient or a parent who has been travelling for less than 21 days and has presented symptoms."

This new service is offered seven days a week from 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. by appointment only.

The online questionnaire allows healthcare workers to "properly assess whether your child needs and is eligible for an appointment at the COVID-19 clinic."

By keeping testing limited to those individuals that are showing symptoms or that nurses feel should be tested, resources are maintained for those who need them most.

For the other two drive-through clinics, people are encouraged to call the COVID-19 line (1-877-644-4545), again to confirm symptoms before receiving a scheduled appointment.

Drive-through clinics have also been adopted in Ontario and British Columbia, in addition to several U.S. states like New York and Massachusetts.

The CHU Sainte-Justine explains that "drivers and pedestrians can now receive this screening service outside, which minimizes the risk of contagion within the institution and allows it to accommodate more patients."

The hospital asks any visitor presenting symptoms associated with COVID-19, who has travelled outside the country in the last 14 days or who has been in contact with a diagnosed person, to avoid coming to its facilities to protect already vulnerable patients.
