Downtown Montreal Has A Brand-New Matcha Café

One of our favourite Montreal matcha tea rooms has officially moved from Westmount to smack downtown on rue Peel.
Livia has always been a special place of ours, there is something about this little restaurant where you can just breathe. They can fit about 20 people inside their new location, but also have a new terrasse that can fit another dozen or so.
And they have some of the best matcha tea choices around.
If you're not familiar with matcha tea, its literal translation is "powdered tea." Usually, with traditional green tea, you're drinking components from the leaves but discard the leaves after. With matcha, you're drinking the actual ground-up leaves.

If you're not a tea fan, Livia serves its "super powder tea" in a bunch of their other products like slats, lemonades, and more classic coffees. They serve only ceremonial grade matcha from Uji, Japan.
With its massive popularity, matcha is mixed into just about everything today from ice cream to cocktails.

Livia has a whole menu of healthy food options like Pitaya (dragonfruit) and Acai bowls, salads and main dishes like Pad Thai (which looks insane), and toasts (salmon, avocado, and peanut butter with banana) if you want a small snack.
Ok, we have to admit that even their avocado toast looks like what millennial dreams are made of. Wow.
Their newhome is the former RYU restaurant at 1468 Peel Street and still has the same feeling of serenity that their Westmount location had. The blend of minimalist wood and marble along with the 'hanging gardens' make it a nice place to take a breather from downtown.
