- Environment Canada has issued a Freezing Rain Warning for Montreal, as temperatures and precipitation threaten to make getting around the city quite hazardous today.
- Several school boards cancelled classes due to the weather east of Montreal.
- Details of the warning and forecast for the day are below.
Environment Canada has issued a freezing rain warning for Montreal and many surrounding areas this morning as temperatures are expected to remain at sub-zero. November has been a hell of a month, not only for Southern Quebec but for most of Canada, as nearly the entire country has seen snow already this season, and November is barely halfway through.
Now, Environment Canada is warning several regions across Southern Quebec to be wary of these super slippery conditions, and several school boards east of Montreal have already cancelled classes today.
Several other regions are also under a snowfall warning, indicating that today is going to be... well, one of those days.
Environment Canada's main objective in these warnings is to properly prepare people for changes in road conditions, which also extends to sidewalks and parking lots.
Some areas can expect to see anywhere from 2 mm to 5 mm of "freezing precipitation," which will inevitably cause an "icy build-up and icy surfaces," which is sure to make getting around Southern Quebec a difficult task today.
Below you can see the Montreal weekly weather forecast provided by Environment Canada. For today, Tuesday, November 19, the temperature remains at 0 C and there is a 40% chance of flurries for later on today.

The freezing rain warning was issued just after 7 a.m. this morning and it indicates that the freezing rain should end in Montreal by the afternoon, when skies will then remain cloudy and flurries may begin.
Environment Canada mentions that "surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways, and parking lots will become icy, slippery and hazardous."

They encourage drivers to adjust accordingly to the weather as road conditions change.
Other regions in Southern Quebec, outside of Montreal that are also under a freezing rain warning include:
- Eastern Townships
- Richelieu Valley
Regions that are currently under a snowfall warning include:
- Forillon National Park
- Gaspésie National Park
- New Carlisle
These regions are expected to see 10 to 15 cm of snow by this evening.
According to the CBC, several school boards east of Montreal decided to cancel classes for the day when it became clear early this morning that driving conditions were hazardous.
"The Eastern Townships School Board, as well as the Saint-Hyacinthe, Hautes-Rivières, Val-des-Cerfs school boards, have cancelled classes," the CBC notes.
They also note that the hazardous driving conditions already managed to take a life early this morning in Saint-Georges, after truck and trailer collided with a car, killing the driver.
Expect these slippery conditions to impact travel throughout the city, including public buses.
And if you see someone slipping around the sidewalk — offer some help and maybe an elbow, would ya?
