Hardest Hit CHSLDs & Senior Residences Shown In New List From Quebec Government
  • The Government of Quebec has released a list of CHSLDs and senior residences hardest hit by the health crisis.
  • These are the residences in which the number of cumulative COVID-19 cases represents over 25% of available beds as of April 13.

The Government of Quebec Government released a list of the most affected CHSLDs and retirement homes during the ongoing health crisis. The pandemic has wreaked havoc on the senior's community in Quebec, spreading around over 100 residences across the province. Montreal is especially affected as many of the most heavily-affected CHSLDs and homes are located in the area.

Premier François Legault confirmed on April 9 that of the COVID-19-related deaths in Quebec up to that date, around 99% of them involved people over 60 years old.

The crisis situation has forced the government to hire more workers at CHSLDs and senior's residences across the province. As of April 14, the CHSLD network is lacking about 1,250 employees.

"We need arms, we need people who have all kinds of medical training, whether they are family doctors, whether they are medical specialists or nurses," said Legault on Tuesday.

"Despite the difficult situation," he said Monday, "I still want to tell you that the vast majority of residences work well. People are well cared for. The staff are attentive, dedicated."

The CHSLDs and residences listed here are ones in which the number of cumulative COVID-19 cases represents over 25% of available beds as of April 13.

The complete list is available through the government's COVID-19 homepage and will be updated.
