It's Official, The New Montreal Beach Is Finally Opening This Summer

In 2015, city officials announced plans to create a new beach on the shore of the Saint Lawrence river in the Montreal borough of Verdun. Already a recreation destination, the Verdun riverside was to become a signature park.

The beach was supposed to open in time for Montreal's 375 anniversary celebrations in 2017. Naturally, the opening date was pushed back. Then, last summer, the opening was again postponed to allow officials to test the water for sewage

Now, finally, a city spokespersonhas confirmed to Narcity Québec that Montrealers will be able to visit and swim at the beach this summer.

The opening should take place at the end of June 2019. Mathieu Robert-Perron, communications officer of the Verdun borough, told Narcity that work on the beach "is progressing well , and we do not expect a delay, unless in the case of exceptional weather conditions."

"As for the opening date, it will be at the end of June 2019. The official date will be announced shortly."

Only some landscaping and work on beach infrastructure (beach cabins, lifeguard station, etc.) is yet to be done, the Narcity report continues.

The beach is close to the popular commercial rue Wellington and the de l'Église metro station.

Montrealers are sure to flock to the beach once it opens. Stay tuned for the official opening date.
