People In Montreal Are Sharing Hilarious Conspiracy Theories About The Earthquake

If you were woken up last night just after 3 a.m. by a strange shaking, don't worry. You're not alone. Many people across the city have reported feeling an earthquake in Montreal last night, and Earthquakes Canada has confirmed that at 3:22 a.m. a seismic event of magnitude 3.3 rocked the Montreal area. Earthquakes in Southern Quebec aren't actually that uncommon, as the Charlevoix Seismic Zone is considered the "most seismically active region of eastern Canada." But the quake last night was... weird.

I'll admit, I don't think I've ever felt an earthquake before, but I did feel the one last night... though I didn't think it was an earthquake at all.

The feeling was loud, forceful, and very short-lived... there were none of the continuous rumblings you see in the movies or on TV. So I was surprised to learn that it was actually an earthquake that woke me up just after 3 a.m. last night. 

I wasn't surprised to see that a ton of other people had taken to Twitter to express their own confusion around the strange earthquake that seemed to last for one split second but was strong enough to cause hairline cracks in my walls.

The first phase is confusion before confirmation.

Was I woken by my sleep paralysis demon or did I take too many sleep meds and the weird dreams are back?

Or, even better, the news of Enrique Iglesias and Ricky Martin bringing their tour to Montreal literally and figuratively shook the city, to its core.

Though, those fantasies have nothing on the real conspiracy theories that have started to crop up due to the strange nature of the quake.

If Fox Mulder were here, I'm sure he'd have some alternative theories about what that frightening bang in the night actually was.

An earthquake is just too easy an answer.

Could it have been a meteorite hitting the island and the feds just don't want us to know?

Perhaps a UFO landing gone wrong managed to shake the whole city?

I can confirm, however, that there was no bomb or explosion on the island as the SPVM is not currently reporting any such kind of occurrence. 

So despite everyone's confusion and the shared feeling that this earthquake was weird as hell... I doubt it was anything other than just that.

Though, again, I totally relate to a lot of these tweets. What I felt at 3:20 a.m. last night did not seem like an earthquake at all.

My honest first thought was that someone in the apartment above me had fallen out of bed.

Many others said that they thought perhaps a truck or snow plow had actually hit their house or apartment building.
