Montreal Emergency Services Are Completely Overwhelmed And Asking People Not To Call 911

The fluffy and white snow was all fun and games until the weather took a turn for messy and dangerous yesterday as steadily increasing temperatures caused precipitation to fall as rain and then hail as the temperatures dropped again overnight.

This morning Montreal woke up to a total disaster zone.  Roads are a slippery mess, and officials are urging people to stay home and avoid non-essential travel until conditions improve.

TL;DR Urgences Sante Quebec is officially begging Montrealers not to call 9-1-1 unless it's a life threatening situation.  In cases that are non life threatening, the right number to call for assistance in Montreal is 8-1-1.

Drivers and also public transit users are dealing with road highly dangerous road conditions. Some recent uploads to Instagram from Montrealers morning commute show us just how grave the situation really is.

As you can imagine, Montreal emergency services are totally swamped.

This type of brutal weather and relentless storms results in all types of accidents and issues which can often require the assistance of emergency services. 

That said, not all emergencies warrant a call to 9-1-1. 

Urgences Sante Quebec is begging Montrealers - as seen multiple times on their Twitter account - to not call 911 unless it's a life threatening situation. 

In cases that are non life threatening, the number to call for assistance is 8-1-1.

Si la tendance se maintient, nos paramédics et nos répartiteurs auront encore une journée fort occupée! C'est pourquoi nous vous demandons d'appeler le 9-1-1 que si une vie est en danger, sinon faites le 8-1-1. Soyez prudents et reportez vos sorties qui ne sont pas nécessaires.

In this Tweet they also urge Quebecers to postpone any non-essential outings. Basically, stay indoors everyone.
