The Montreal Time Out Market has been generating excitement ever since it was announced more than a year ago. The market was touted as a one-stop shop that brings together some of the city's most prestigious and diverse cuisines.
The market is set to open in late 2019 in the Eaton Center. It will be the "centrepiece" of the newly renovated downtown core.
After months of waiting with little news or updates on the Time Out Market, we now know which chefs will be hosted in the prestigious gourmet food market.
The Time Out Market was a concept put together by Time Out magazine. The magazine takes the best of a city and puts it in a market, turning a venue into what is basically a big, fancy cafeteria.
Guests eat on china and flatware, and they can sample dishes from some of the best restaurants in the city. The restaurants have their individual stands at different locations in the market.
The first Time Out market was in Lisbon, Portugal, but there are now Time Out Markets all over the world.
Time Out says that "What connects all markets is a carefully curated mix of top chefs and restaurateurs, and of unique culinary and cultural experiences."
These experiences are embodied by the chefs picked by the Time Out team, a mix of high-end, Michelin-worthy restaurants and cult classics.
The first 8 restaurants announced are the following:
Le Red Tiger
Le Club Chasse et pêche
Hof Sucrée (an offshoot of Hof Kelsten)
Burger T! by Normand Laprise
This lineup of "award-winning chefs and celebrated culinary talent" will be made affordable by the market.
The CEO of Time Out Market has stated, "we want Time Out Market Montréal to be a vibrant reflection of this city’s excellent and diverse restaurant scene, and offer this food-loving city [...] something new and unique."
Once the project is complete, it will feature 16 eateries, a demonstration kitchen, a cooking academy, three bars, art and cultural spaces, and a retail area.
