You can still go to the park, but you can't gather in groups.

Montreal Park Gatherings Leads Local Nurse To Post Tearful Video

As temperatures rise, people are increasingly flocking to Montreal parks — something public officials have even encouraged. But while many people are respecting public health guidelines, others are flouting social distancing rules, participating in prohibited gatherings and loitering within two meters of other individuals. In a now-viral and highly emotional Facebook video, one local nurse is begging them to stop.

Alice Wydrych works at the Centre hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal (CHUM), where, she makes clear at the beginning of her video, the staff is working exceptionally hard in tremendous and often heart-breaking circumstances.

"This morning, I watched my team intubate someone with probable COVID," she says at the opening of the video posted Sunday.

"They came out of the room completely drenched in sweat because they spent an hour in that room stabilizing a patient who was probably going to die."

"And then I went home and I went to sleep expecting everyone to go outside today because of how beautiful and sunny it is."

"But on my way to work now, I drove by a park crawling with people, playing soccer and basketball, hanging out, having a great old time," she continues, visibly emotional, her voice cracking.

She says she called the police to intervene.

"I can't help but wonder, how the hell do people encourage us and praise us every single day and then go out and do that?"

With tears streaming down her face, she says that "they seem to think that they're completely invincible and that they can do whatever they want and that this is some extended vacation."

Wydrych and her colleagues, meanwhile, are "completely [working] themselves to the bone" and "forced to work full-time hours in pretty shitty conditions."

"We're all so tired, physically and emotionally."

"And people have the fucking nerve to do whatever the fuck they want while we just wither away."

She ends her video with a plea.

"Please help us."

"I don't want us to turn into this police state where everyone is snitching on everybody. But sometimes that's what it takes."

Watch the video, shared with Wydrych's permission, below:

As of the time of writing, the video has been viewed over 17,000 times and earned over 1,000 shares on Facebook.

Police officers are empowered to issue fines of between $1,000 and $6,000 to individuals who disobey public health rules.
