Investigators from the SPVM's arson squad are asking for the publics' help to identify a suspect involved in a violent robbery of a LaSalle depanneur last month.
On September 24, the suspect entered the depanneur at Thierry St. and Lefebvre St. shortly after 11 p.m. According to police reports, the suspect sprayed the 65-year-old clerk with a flammable liquid and threw a firebomb on the ground. During the altercation, he also slashed the store clerk's hand with a sharp object before stealing the contents of the register.
The suspect then fled on foot.
The assault was captured on video from the store's surveillance. Officers are analyzing the footage to try and identify the suspect.
According to the SPVM: Le suspect est un homme d’environ 40 ans, mince et mesurant environ 1,70 m (5’6’’).
The suspect is a man approximately 40 years old, slim and about 5'6" tall. He has a long face, black skin and a goatee with a few white hairs. He wore dark clothes and what appears to be a red scarf on his head. He fled on foot after inflicting burns on his victim's face and hands, his hand also suffered a stab wound.
As you can see from the video below, the store clerk tries to defend himself from the assault as the suspect throws lit paper at the man. At one point the clerk tries to ward off the assailant with what looks like a broom.
The clerk's face and hands were burned in the incident and he suffered a stab wound to one hand. He was transported to the hospital shortly after the attack.
