Summer, are you there? It's us, MTLBlog.
Montreal To Break 73-Year Cold Temperature Record This Weekend

Spring has been teasing us with glimpses of sun and warmth, but that's not to say that it's here to stay. The city has experienced rain and colder temperatures in recent days and this trend is set to continue all weekend.

In fact, with a predicted high of two degrees tomorrow, it might be the coldest April 27 since 1946. Montreal would break a decades old cold temperature record. I'm not here for this kind of behaviour, Mother Nature.

TL;DR With a predicted high of two degrees, tomorrow might be the coldest April 27th since 1946.

YUL Weather Records, a Twitter account run by a weather historian, keeps tabs on historical weather records. The account Tweeted this out earlier on Friday:

Historial data from the government of Canada, however, shows that the daily high temperature on April 27th, 1946 was 2.2 degrees:

This data comes from a weather station at St-Laurent College in Montreal in 1946.

If Montreal is indeed 2 degrees, it will be colder than April 27th, 1946 as indicated by government records, shattering the record that date holds.

It's comforting, at least, to know that springtime weather in Montreal was just as capricious then as it is now. Notice that the daytime high just two days earlier was 20 degrees.

Montreal is therefore set to break a 73-year-old cold weather record. If the high is 2 degrees, it will be one of the coldest April 27 in recorded history.

The next coldest temperature, of 3.9 degrees, was recorded in 1932, according to to YUL Weather Records.

This is unfortunate news for the optimists among us who have already put their winter jackets away. I've been ready to break out my summer dresses and shorts and head to the park for the last month.

If you think this is going to put a damper on your weekend plans, don't despair just yet. There are so many things to do this weekend that don't involve going outside.

Check out one of these 15 activities that will keep you busy all weekend long.
