Over the next two months, the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) will be consulting with experts and the public about the new Blue Line extension. The STM is inviting Montrealers to a series of public consultation sessions where citizens can share their ideas, suggestions, and concerns to the project's team. The company will also host a series of information sessions, which are open to the public, for those who are curious to find out more about what's in store for the Blue Line. 

This news comes after it was announced that the STM awarded the second architectural contracts for the future Viau and Lacordaire stations. Les Architectes FABG will design the Viau station and STGM + Daoust Lestage Architectes en consortium will take care of Lacordaire station.

In November 2019, the STM awarded the first contracts to Bisson Fortin Architecture and ACDF Architecture. Each station will be a unique design according to rigorous standards.

With a mandate to fully integrate into existing networks, the STM and the architectural firms will have their work cut out for them. According to the STM, the architects must consider "natural light, easy material maintenance, energy efficiency, water reuse, and adaptability to weather conditions and climate change" in their designs. 

Public consultations commence in February 2020 and will continue until March. The STM will then release the first renderings of new station designs to the public. 

The anticipation for the Blue Line extension in Montreal is palpable. Ever since Justin Trudeau first announced a $1.3-billion investment to fund the extension in July 2019, all eyes have been on the Blue Line. 

Due to start running in 2026, we still have a long way to go before we see any construction. The STM is slowly making tangible progress, however.

The Blue Line extension will include five new stations that will run from Saint-Michel all the way to Galeries d'Anjou. Montreal's East End will be connected like never before.

The STM is offering citizens full access to the process and will consult with East End residents at every step. 

Montrealers can share their thoughts in one of three ways. 

You may send a written statement to the corporate office so that it can be read at the public hearing. You can physically attend the hearing and voice your opinion on the microphone.

And finally, you can send a private written statement directly to the corporate office. 

The hearings will take place in Saint-Michel, Saint-Leonard, and Anjou. Neighbourhood residents especially are encouraged to take part in the public consultations. 

Information sessions will be held on February 11, 13, and 18. Public input sessions will be on February 26, and March 2 and 4.
