Montreal STM Metro Green Line Shutdown Due To Train Breakdown

The Montreal metro Green line has been shut down for nearly an hour this morning due to the breakdown of a train. The STM notified passengers just after 6:30 a.m. that a train had broken down impacting service between Berri-UQAM and Viau stations. Initially, they anticipated service returning by 6:50 a.m., but have since had to push that back nearly an hour.

Now the STM is anticipating service to resume at 7:45 a.m. and the shutdown has been extended to include all stations between Berri-UQAM and Honore-Beaugrand.

A special bus service has been put in place to help commuters get between Berri-UQAM and Honore-Beaugrand while the shutdown continues.

The STM has not indicated where exactly the train has broken down, all we know is that all stations east of Berri-UQAM are impacted.

This will mean a delayed morning commute for those in Montreal's east end hoping to get into the downtown core this morning.

The STM reminds passengers that they can find the bus stops for the special bus service displayed on the neighbourhood plans in all the stations.

Take a look at the tweets below and stay tuned as we will update this space to keep you informed as the situation changes.

The STM shared the following tweet at 6:30 a.m. this morning indicating the Green line shutdown between stations Berri-UQAM and Viau due to a train breaking down.

Initially, the STM assumed the situation would be resolved in 20 minutes and service would resume at 6:50 a.m., however they then tweeted the following at 6:48 a.m.

Then, just before 7 a.m., the shutdown was extended again, this time until 7:45 a.m. and now included all stations between Berri-UQAM and Honore-Beaugrand.

It seems that the issue is taking some time to resolve and has extended to include even more stations that initially impacted.

A shuttle has been put in place for passengers who need to travel between Honore-Beaugrand and Berri-UQAM.

UPDATE: Service is now gradually resuming on the Green line, though the STM reminds passengers that "delays and increased ridership are expected in both directions."
