If you don't have plans for this Friday in Montreal, consider this! The Montreal Botanical Gardens is offering free admission to their Great Gardening Weekend and the outdoor gardens, only for today, Friday, May 24th, 2019.
The event explores Heirloom plants and the human impact on agriculture, what they are calling our "green heritage."
The Great Gardening weekend also features "exhibitors, lectures and advice to help you create the garden of your dreams."
While the Biodome and Insectarium are currently closed for major renovations, the Botanical Gardens is ready to welcome visitors for their summer season.
Opening hours for the weekend are 9 AM - 6 PM Friday the 24th, Saturday the 25th and Sunday the 26th. However, free admission is only be offered today, Friday the 24th.
The Botanical Gardens are located at 4101 rue Sherbrooke Est, less than a 10-minute walk from Pie-IX metro station, on the Green line.
If you are free today, it's also a great day to get outdoors, since it seems the weather is going hold out and we shouldn't see any rain today.
The same can't be said for tomorrow, so today is definitely the day to seize any free time you have - save yourself the need for an umbrella and the cost of admission and go take a stroll around the outdoor gardens! You won't be sorry you did.
As part of the Great Gardening Weekend, the Frédéric Back Tree Pavilion will once again be giving away free seedlings for visitors to take home and plant, courtesy of the Québec Department of Forests, Wildlife and Parks, but they are of course in limited quantity.
The Great Gardening Weekend will be on all weekend, even if you don't have a chance to head over there for free today. Regular price for Quebec residents is $16.00, $20.50 if you're from out of province. They have reduced rates for students and adults over 65 with valid ID. Check out the full list of admissions fees, including children and family prices at their site.
