Montreal's Fantasia Film Festival Will Be All Online So You Can Watch The Movies From Home

Montreal's renowned Fantasia Film Festival is going virtual this year. Like all of Montreal's anticipated summer festivals, it was unlikely that Fantasia would be able to go ahead as planned due to the ongoing health crisis. Festival organizers, therefore, came up with the innovative solution of hosting an online film festival, to the delight of film lovers everywhere.
Taking place from August 20 to September 2, 2020, Fantasia will present its 24th edition on a cutting-edge digital platform that will showcase the films in real-time.
"While we’re saddened not to be able to put on the larger-than-life physical event that we’d been planning for this year, we’re extremely excited to be working with Festival Scope and Shift72 on an unconventional virtual edition," said Fantasia co-director Mitch Davis.
"They’ve enthusiastically embraced every challenge we’ve thrown their way, particularly when it comes to making so many of our screenings be real-time, live events instead of the usual streaming approach."
"It’s going to make things so much more exciting and will go a long way towards keeping the intensity and engagement of the in-person experience vibrant in an online realm.”
Fantasia will feature a lineup of genre films and cult classics that long-time fans have come to expect.
While festivals goers won't be able to see the films in the theatre, Fantasia's online festival aims to bring the full cinema and movie festival experience into your home.
The festival's famous "filmmaker intros, audience-involved Q&A’s, live panels, workshops, short film showcases, juried competitions, and audience awards" will still be featured, offering a seamless festival experience.
"This year’s online edition will be engaging and exciting for attendees as the festival has planned premieres to replicate the physical event, adding a sense of exclusivity and familiarity," said Festival Scope CEO and Co-Founder Alessandro Raja.

Along with its classic offerings, this year's Fantasia Festival will feature exclusive world and international film premieres, as well as selected titles from the cancelled Tribeca and SXSW festivals.
All film screenings will only be available to Canadian audiences from every province.
The Fantasia Film Festival will announce its first wave of movies later in May.
